The name is derived from the name of the ancient people of Switzerland prior to the Roman conquest, the Helvetii. The female figure of Helvetia appeared during the construction of a Swiss national identity in the 19th century and Helvetia appeared on coins and stamps after the foundation of the federal state of Switzerland in 1848, under the profile is the letter "C" which is one hundred in Roman numerals possible denoting that 100% of the case is 18k including the back cover locking ring unlike the cases made in the USA which were not 100% 18k because they used a stainless steel back cover locking ring and in some cases stainless steel battery hatch and setting adjustment tab were also used on them. On the angled portion of the case back it is stamped with "BULOVA 18 KT GOLD" and "PATENED WATER PROOF" and on the flat portion it is stamped with the serial number "1-375782" and under that is "M5", It also has the very rare 18 kt solid gold case back lock ring, The back cover inside is stamped with the case #451, The Movement is stamped with "214H BULOVA" and "SWISS MADE", It also has the original box and hang tag.

The other day I glanced at the collection and noticed the 18k wasn't running so I immediately took the battery out (the battery the guy I bought it from had put in it) and looked at it and noticed that it was some super cheap china battery so I decided to test it with the accutron model 600 test set I had got off fleabay a few weeks ago, of course it was shot. when I first bought this watch I was very scared to do anything with it but since then I have had much success with working on accutron 214's so I decided to take my first look inside it, the first thing was removing the case back locking ring which on this watch is the uber rare Swiss 18k solid gold locking ring which I don't think anybody doesn't already know that 18k gold is pretty dang soft but I had no problems removing it and the case back, after doing that I decided to remove the movement from the case and put it in the 214 movement holder that came with the test set and hook it up to the power test clip and run some tests and after seeing how spotless it was inside I would oil anything I could get to without taking anything else apart which as it turns out is quite a bit, all the tests showed that the movement was in great working condition so I put it all back together and ran it for over 48 hours with it's new energizer 387s multi-drain 1.55v battery and in that time it lost only 1 second in 48 hours !!! That's as good as my Bulova Accutron Navigator Mark II Analog Ship's 24-hour dial Chronometer !     I can't tell you what a relief that was..........

I finally got some pixs of the inside......
