Hi, This was my Grandads watch. I'm trying to find out a bit more about it. I think it's maybe from the "Ambassador" range, but these seem to be 30 jewels where as mine is 23 jewels?? I think it may be AT LEAST 1966 as the company enscribed on the back was local and was wound up in 1967. I've not got the tools to take the back off and look inside for dates etc, but I would really like to find out more. I stupidly had it "cleaned" at a local jewellers around 2 years ago, but 6 months after receiving it back the hands fell off (as you can see). I tried to go back to the jewellers but they had closed down! I've asked Bulova how much it would cost to clean and repair and they've quoted £140 to clean it + parts + extra time to repair + postage + VAT which I simply can't afford, any direction to a reputable repairer in the UK (near York if possible) would be much appreciated.
Thanks for any help.
Hello atshaw2011, welcome to myBulova. I think you are fortunate to have this wonderful keepsake from your grandfather. I hope we can help you get it back to a suitable working condition.
I've looked through our adverts and watches and don't really see anything to match it with. Can you tell me what what is written on the dial? The personalization is a method of dating it but it can be unreliable. As this case back doesn't seem to contain the letter/digit date code that Bulova favored, we might have to wait to have the back opened to accurately date itfrom the movement date code.
For now I suggest it is an 'Unknown' model. I'll send you some suggestions on service options.
I would have to agree with Unknown at this time. The style of the watch strikes me as more 1970s, but a search through the current ads for both decades 60 and 70 did not find a match. Bulova had at least 500 models and styles that they were selling overseas by 1967 (ref: 1967 Bulova Annual Report), and this UK watch could be one of those that we just don't have an ad for, yet.
