My grandfather handed this down to me. My grandmother bought it for him. My dad remembers buing it in the store but he was young. Wanted verification on what it is, I'm suspecting 1967 Diamond Excellency "J." I took pictures of this strange white pastey substance on the band. Wanted to know if I should pay to have this professionally cleaned or if there is a way I can do it myself?

Nice watch.  Looks like Diamaon Excellency "J" to me.
Undated newspaper ad below:

Trying to remember if/how we determined that the "white or yellow" had different variant letters.
It's not showing up in the Price List spreadsheet, which only has models through Spring 1964.

I'm good with tentative 1967 Diamond Excellency "J".

Hi Dan, welcome to myBulova. I think a watch inherited from your grandfather is pretty cool. By all means have it serviced and wear it! As you can see from the advert Will posted, that bracelet is most likely original to the watch. You could probably clean the bracelet yourself, with warm, soapy water and an old toothbrush but you MUST remove it from the watch if you attempt it. Do not subject the watch to any soap or water. What I really recommend having it all professionally cleaned. Find a good watchmaker to service the watch and have him/her clean the bracelet at the same time.

Thanks for sharing it with us

Diamond Excellency J is my ID vote.
