Mark,

I have that one somewhere (the ad) also.... I believe it's a likely another "SEA KING," model???

CORRECTION: The "CLIPPER,"  as you have it!

William,

Familiar with Your first example: late 60's - early 70's design 'SEA KING' - a 17 Jewel Waterproof Automatic with Date display.

'71 'SEA KING' http://www.mybulova.com/watches/1971-sea-king-851

The second example You show is not a 'SEA KING' as it is a 23 Jewel Waterproof Automatic with Day and Date display. Common mis-conception being all the 'Whale logo'd' Dials are 'SEA KINGS', they're not.

The Whale insignia indicates 'Waterproof (auto?)' as shown in Three or more examples now.

Fifth

Here's my version of the second - NOS with a "President A" hang tag. The only difference is that darn whale. The instructions in the box with this fellow refer to it as a Jet Star model (line). I have reference ads showing several different case styles all under the Jet Star designation. By the 70's Bulova seems to have dropped the 'names' from their products and stuck with just the model/part number. I found it unusual that this late they were still naming this one, although the "President" monniker was one of their earliest. I'm thinking someone with a lot of time on their hands right a story for the home page documenting all the different watches that Bulova has named either President or Senator, I bet we'd all be surprised how many there really were

geoff.

WOW! That was like, QUICK!?

Mark, THANKS! I had suspected the "Sea Kings" were only part of the WHALE fleet... And THANKS also to Geoff for underscoring that  a "23J" (+) does NOT equal a "lesser than" namesake... Afterall, a "Senator" is only 17 Jewels! (Or even 15Js, earlier on...) And there were MANY Pres/Senators, for sure!

An interesting lOOk to the '72... Reminiscent of the Hamilton Odyesee, and several other mechanicals, E- Ms, and even Accutrons!  A COOL design :-)

And the '69er (Sea King) looks like a '60s mechanical, or even GF Accutron case/dial??? LOL...

I also sniped a Witt "Electric" (Philip still has?) that I believe has the same case? Or perhaps slightly larger, than the Clipper "D?!"

Best :-)  Scott

Thanks Mark - I love these 70's "Mod" watches almost as I love the oldies, my collection is about 50/50. The only think that keeps me from slipping this fellow on every now and then is the corfam strap which leaves a blue mess EVERYWHERE it goes.......

geoff
