Watch Description

Dear friends, since you have already been so kind to me, giving me some pieces of advice in this new to me world of vintage bulova watches, here I am with a couple of questions.

As I wrote some weeks ago I am yearning for a Bulova Blackhawk with all the numerals around the dial. I came across a Carrel, instead, and I bought it. I love it. I posted it here in this site.

One week ago I found on ebay another watch. It seemed to be in excellent conditions. The auction had an expensive starting price for me in this time of crisis here in Italy but my wife smiled at me when I showed this watch to her on the screen. "I love it" I told her, anticipating a quarrel upon the money I would spend.  "All right, so, try to win the auction" she whispered to me...

I have no idea about the usual prices for these watches but I won the auction and I paid 220 us dollars, high tracked shipping fare to Italy included and, moreover, I paid 35 euros for Customs' tax. In my opinion, I paid an arm and a leg but I hope that someone will comfort me by telling me that in the end it was not that much and it was worth it.

This is EXACTELY the watch I was dying for, with all its numerals around...but in the negative film colour...

Did it belong to anyone of you?

Does anyone know its history?

The " T " would make it 1942, 17 Jewels, plain radium dial makes it the Surgeon, in my opinion.

Surgeon 1942, and the serial number on the back confirms it.

Be thankful that your wife supports your bad habits...: )

She's an illuminate woman. We share everything, life, sleep, food, wallet...

So, when I have to spend more than 10 euros I wait for her approval. You are right. Buying a new watch, even if once in a while, is a bad habit of mine and she knows it. Every time she catches me on the act of watching old but shiny ticking machines maybe she thinks "My God, why doesn't he search for pinup girls like every other man ? Maybe it's less expensive..."

She may be right, you can't pinch a watches butt and give it a hug. Don't feel like you are alone in this Bulova mania as most of us are in the same boat.
