The case is like the Bulova 23 H but the dial has the diamonds commomly found on the Beau. There's a 1959 posted on another site with an ad showing it as the Beau Brummell but with 4 diamonds. Ad comes from Watchophelia.com. Thx Lisa

Subject does not match any known ad, but would give two tix for BB.

Lugs on the above BB in the ad Shawn posted are more like the ones on the 1956 Golden Clipper.

I'd agree with Bobbee as the lugs are not an exact match but the dial is what makes me think BB.

I do find a couple of 1958 ads that have diamond dialed models that are 23 variants ('YW' and 'ZW'), ad1 and ad2. Though in 1955 there were far fewer 23 variants than in 1958 (same for the BB); and not sure if any of the '55 23 series had diamonds. Just pointing out that there were 23j diamond dial watches that were not Brummells, at least in '58; but in this case I don't see an ad that matches this watch, and it is different from the YW and ZW and the '59 BB. I would guess chances are it could be a BB vs. a 23 in 1955, since the only pricier 23s that year were the J and I, which did not have diamonds and were 14KT. Tentative BB

Tentative Beau

I will be tentative at best as a Beau Brummell. My first thought was that the number of diamonds or maybe the placement of them might have a bearing but I can't seem to make that correlation. My gut tells me Beau Brumnell, I just can't prove it in a court of law.

I'm actually going against the grain on this one and saying it's a Bulova 23.

Reasons are:

  • 1955 is to early for 23J round BBs
  • There are a number of 1955 adverts showing a four diamond model listed as a Bulova 23
  • The earliest advert I have found for a 23 jeweled BB is 1957 with most appearing from 1959 onwards.

Based on the year alone I'm incline to ID this as a Bulova 23 with unknown variant, but my gut tells me that if we do find a later BB 6 diamond configuration that the variant will be the same. I believe they simply rebadged these diamond versions as BBs post 1955.

Stephen, could you point me to one of those 1955 adverts with a 23 four-diamond dial; I went back again and didn't see one, and if there is one then my theory is wrong. -thanks

Earliest ad for a diamond dial Bulova "23" is 1958.

Earliest round cased BB ad is 1957.

Sticking with BB.

I would be most comfortable with it as a "23" as well.
