Watch Description

1950 Elissa. There is not an example of this exact watch on your site, so I would like to submit mine. It is my 2015 Valentine's Day present and it still works, but is about 4 minutes fast. I would like to know more about it.

Hi Lady Dairhean. You have a beautiful ladies Bulova. I believe it may be the "Elissa" model.

Bretton was fairly common on older Bulova watches. Movement is 1950 and case is 1951, also common to see a year later case.

Close, but are the lugs and horizontal bezel engraving slightly different?

I think it is a correct match to the Elissa. The areas to each side of the lug are multi-directional and look difficult to perfectly represent artistically. Everything else, including the band, look to be a good match.

It is hard to tell looking at the caseback image, but what is stamped below the Bulova? I faintly see a 49, possibly be a L#, or maybe nothing at all stamped.

Congratulations on your Valentine's gift; it is probably time to have it serviced and get it running properly.

There are digits scratched onto the inside of the case back. They're "19?". I can't quite read them either without a jeweler' eye.

The numbers scratched inside the case back were put there by the jeweler when the watch was serviced. They would have no meaning to anyone except the jeweler. It could be the job ticket numbers or something like that. But they are an indication of how many services it has received in the past.

I'm good with Elisa ID.

I just uploaded a new photo of the case back showing the year number.
