Yes, it's definitely a 1949 His Excellency NN.  I've identified the model from this site.  I had a second one in white gold with a slate gray dial but I cannot find it.

Yes, but the case was white gold filled, looked like silver.  It had a faceted crystal, signed crown and a black leather band.

The watch linked above is my watch. Although it appears yellow it is, in fact white gold filled.

Thank you, Geoff.  This watch was my grandfather's; he recevied it as an anniversary gift from my grandmother, apprently in 1949.  This site is an amazing resource, as I had no info on my Bulovas; I was into Gruen Curvex watches about 10 years ago.  I sold most of them off and kept a couple.

 

My white gold/slate grey His Excellency is missing in action, and i'm quite unhappy about that.
