Watch Description

I picked up this watch and ad last week and they came today.  I believe it matches the model Smart Set in the ad and it is a 1946 ad.  It is 14K rose gold filled with a domed crystal and original band with rose gold clasp.  It also came with the original box and outer box and guarantee certificate.

The listing sounded like it was the original owner so after I purchased it I asked if there was any history about the watch they could share.  She told me her father was in the Navy in WWII.  She said that while he was still overseas he picked up this watch for his mother for Christmas and sent it to her.  She said he is now 92 and that his mother kept the watch until she died and that it had been in the attic since then.  She included the note that he sent with the watch for Christmas.

Well I was beyond tickled to get the watch today and it felt like Christmas for me.  It is in wonderful condition and I plan on getting it serviced so I can wear it.

Wow, a first for the site. A 1946 Bulova Smart Set it is. Strange name but I like the style.

What amazing condition this watch is in.

Yes I think it is an odd name too but I love the style.  Probably a watch I would have wanted to own in the day.

Well, how cool is this! Love the associated story and note, along with original box and certificate. That is certainly a curious name.

I started out thinking it may have been an ad setup mistake, but I don't think so. Only models even close (from 1942-1952) in the full ads I can find are Her Excellencys, but the jewel count and lugs are wrong.

If this is indeed a "Smart Set", it's a first for the database, both as a watch and apparently as an ad.

Nice snag and presentation Kathy, be sure to upload the ad to the DB!

It is a odd name isn't it.  I purchased the watch first because I fell in love with it and it was too good a deal to pass up.  I had looked though the ads and didn't find a match so I was hoping someone here would know.  I was actually looking for a Clara Barton Bulova ad when I stumbled across this ad.  I couldn't have been more happy to realize Smart Set was on there and purchased it.  I added the ad and sent a better copy to Stephen for the full page section.  Thanks!

For me Kathy, sometime it isn't the watch, it's the watches STORY.

I LOVE this story!
