1958 Bulova His Excellency "EW" and a nice one

I don't believe that the ad variant is correct, as 'EW' was not listed at the $59.50 price in the pricelists, and is listed as a white case.

There are ads showing this watch in two styles, with a strap and with an expansion band.

There are a couple ads showing the 'A' with strap at $59.50, but the pricelists have a different price for this variant, or it later became the 'AW' which is listed at that price.

If the band on this watch is a match to the 'C' ad, then that is what I would go with. If not, then perhaps we have the 'A' variant.

I think you are right Ken. I didn't dig deep enough. We had this debate at least once before about date and band effect on variant letter with this model, as well as the ads.  I'll also go with "C"  based on production date and apparent expansion band on subject watch (if it matches the ad you provided). If not, maybe the way to go is generic HE.

altmans1, can you please post a photo of the band as well?

Bulova His Excellency 'C' might just be correct.

Bulova His Excellency, unsure on the variant at this time.

Here is the band that is on my His Excellency!

Thank you, this band is not the original one, which would have curved ends to conform to the case.

Panel, which way do we go?

It is a HE "C" as submitted presented on a metal band or

tentative "C", or

generic His Excellency based on not knowing what the original band was?

I'm leaning towards calling it a His Excellency "C", noting band replacement.

Interesting that the model and variant from the 1958 Linebook BAWD0136 page 39 as variant A.  Variant C is showing a different case which contradicts the ad.  I am wondering if we need to classify this as an A noting a replaced strap.
