Watch Description

I am unsure of the actual date of this watch.  It belonged to my grandfather and he never spoke much about it.  The band is not original.

Hi Poppie1, welcome to mybulova. Neat watch, heirlooms are the best - especially solid gold ones.

Clarification needed. On the end of the movement there appears to be a 2 digit code (letter and number) or symbol; can you verify what it is? It's Below the "Co." abbreviation of "Company" and appears in photo to be "L-". Is this the case or is it a circle, square, arrow, etc?

On the case back, what is written on the end opposite the serial number? Let's start there to verify production year.

I am not 100% sure what you mean, but the only things below the "Co." that I have noticed are "USA", the small circle (though it is faint), and what appears to be a speed gauge (F and S on a speedometer-like arc).    Opposite the serial number on the back of the watch it only says "14k Gold" and one line below "Bulova."

Thank you so much for your help!

Your watch looks like Beau Brummel, it would want a photo from the side, it is not clear if the lugs correspond to BB

The watch looks to be from 1944 based on serial number starting with '4' and the circle stamp on the movement. The case looks similar to the Douglas/Ambassador, but I do not find anything showing that case style in solid gold. May be Unknown model at this time.

Welcome to myBulova and congrats on having such a fine heirloom from your grandfather.  To me it looks like this might be from 1951, there appears to be a L1 on the back of the case next to Bulova that would indicate it was made in 1951, L = 1950s and 1 for 1951.  If you can confirm this and if there is a similar date code on the movement we can update the date for you.

I am not entirely sure where you are looking for the L.  Would you mind clarify where you are seeing that?

Looking at the photo of the movement, it the upper left is "Co'" In the other corner at right is a screw. Stamp appears to be right in the middle of those two reference points on flat surface near the movement edge.

Never mind my comment about the L1 on the back of the case.  I was able to enlarge your photo to read it better and see it says 14K GOLD and Bulova under that.

Sold gold case, diamond dial and price point would suggest a Beau Brummell as indicated by Jabs.

Thinking 1944 based on the case serial number.
