Watch Description

I received this from my Mother 15 years ago and wore it on special occasions.  It says 14Kt Gold (it is white gold).  It has a Speidel watch band... at least that is what it says on the clasp.  It has 20 diamonds surrounding the face.  I am curious to know what year.

From the L5 on the movement it could be a 1955-56 model, but L5 or L6 should also be stamped on the case back under the 14K, so the movement could have been swapped to a pre 1950 case.

As far as value, we don't appraise here, but if you do some searching on eBay for similar 14K watch with Diamonds, that will give you an idea of its value.

Thanks Greg.  Do you know if that was a common practice to swap a movement to an early case?  My Mother and Father led me to believe that this watch was brand new.

Thanks,

JF

It is possible that it was in reality a new watch when they gave it to you.  If a jeweler made it, he at some time bought the components and created this piece. The movement may or may not have been new, watchmakers and jewelers of old kept those goodies, new or old, forever...spare parts and new creations were needed.

Thanks Shooter... however, when they gave it to me it was NOT new.  It was new when it was given to my Mom.  I presume back in 1955.  That is why I asked if it was a common practice back to swap out the components back then.  It looks to be a 1938 Alma case with 1955 movement.

This appears to be a 1955 Petite "A" based on listing from the 1955-57 Line Book page 14.

Wow 2011, this is an old watch entry. I hope the owner still pops by every now and then. I think I might email them to let them know we finally ID'd their watch.
