Watch Description

Picked this one up on ebay as a non runner for a decent price. Had to replace the coils in it, but otherwise it was in good shape. I thought that the diamond indices were really interesting and that they went well with the "up down" day date complication. These Accutrons and other non quartz electric watches have really captivated me as of recent. Even though they make up a small portion of my collection I find these taking up a lot of wrist time. I hope to post my other few Accutron watches as well as the rest of my Bulova collection soon.

I think I found your watch in the 1970_LineBook_BAWD0173. Unfortunately, no name or stock number is listed. It is categorized as part of the "Accutron Date Day Series".

Note the diamonds at 2,4, 8 and 10.

It is still a base Accutron Date Day, just haven't found the variant model number.

Despite the diamonds on the dial (which I think are custom), watch is a good match for an 1970 Bulova Accutron Date and Day "Q"

Found an example of a diamond Accutron. Note they start the model number with a "D"

I would agree to an ID of 1970 Bulova Accutron Date and Day Q, while noting the likely addition of the diamonds.

My original thought was that the diamonds were a later addition, but upon further inspection I came to the conclusion that they had to be original to the dial. For starters I also have a base model Accutron Date and Day "Q"  and the codes on the undersides of the dials to indicate the variant are not the same. Secondly if the diamond dial on this started its life as a base Date and Day there would be small holes in the dial where the old indexes used to be that the diamond settings wouldn't have covered up. This is not the case. Also the comment from admin that there are other Accutron models with factory diamond dials confirms at least to me that the dial is indeed factory original.

I would ID as a generic Bulova Accutron Date and Day for now, with the possibility that this diamond dial version had a different variant....maybe 'DQ'

Agreed,

Generic Accutron Date and Day, variant currently unknown.
