Kindly Advice Regarding New Old Stock Parts

Submitted by dcflipper on April 23, 2023 - 6:55am

Hello all, and thank you for allowing me to be part of this amazing Bulova resource. I sell vintage watch parts & materials on eBay. I recently acquired a large Bulova parts collection from a retired watchmaker and have been listing away for the last two weeks. Yesterday, I realized some of my sealed old stock parts are degraded and rusted, making them worthless. Now I am in a rush to go through the 100s of parts I've listed and check each for condition. I advise those buying New Old Stock parts online to ask the seller to open the part and check for condition before you waste your time and money purchasing.

Indeed.  I bought some hairsprings last year and found about 30% rusted.  Happily, the seller took them back and refunded my money pro rata.  He made me send them back which was a little picky.  I sent him pictures. It all worked out in the end.

Speaking of ebay, I am unable to pay for purchases on there now. When I try to pay I'm redirected to a page saying "Access Denied". I contacted ebay through the chat thing a ma gig and spent an hour and a half chatting to 3 different level technicians. They had me try all kinds of things and none of them worked. I had some other things to do and had to end that chat meeting. I'm going to wait until I have at least a couple of hours free before contacting them again. Anyone else having this problem?

Sorry for the late suggestion. I had the very same problem a couple years back. We tried everything that eBay suggested but nothing worked. I finally ended up closing my eBay account and a couple days later opened a new EBay account and now have no problems with domesic or international purchases or payments.

Your ebay issue seems odd.  I assume you are using paypal.  I would do a clean browser install...different than the one you are using now (say, e.g., chrome), and try again.  I run three browsers continuously to deal with such things.  I was trying to get a permit from the canucks recently and ended up calling them.  Was told I had to use chrome. OK.

I got back on chat with the ebay techs and I tried different browsers, tried some kind of private browser thing that I didn't even know existed, deleted all browsing history and nothing worked. The tech that was talking me through all of this said he/she was going to forward our conversation to the head of their IT department. Assured me that it will get fixed.
