6P ladies Watch

Submitted by Kunapets on July 28, 2011 - 12:52pm

I have a 14K ladies watch with a broken 6P balance staff. I am looking to replace the entire movement, but cannot find a working 6P. Will other movements i.e., 6PP, 6PG, 6PPI or 6W fit the same case. I don't flip watches for profit - just have a small collection of Bulova's. There are a number of 6AP's around, but I don't know if that would work.

Thanks  Ken S

I'll check what staffs I have tonight.

Thanks, but the watchmaker I am using says the balance is adjusted at the factory, and he would not want to attempt just a balance staff change. He is suggesting either a complete balance assembly, or a replacement movement. I am still in the process of learning watch repair - right now I can only do cosmetic stuff, so I don't know how difficult a balance staff replacement would be.

Thanks  Again  Ken S

Given the last comment re. skill of the watchmaker, I would get someone else to do the job if you have the balance staff for me.

Thanks  Ken S

No offence but doesn't sound like a good watchmaker.......

Ken,

I will check my staffs on hand tonight when I get home.  I can almost guarantee that I have one that fits.

GJ,

Balance and staff are timed as a unit by the manufacturer. To change the staff only could open the door to numerous timing issues out of the range of the regulator involving tedious, time consuming and costly labour hours playing with timing washers.

One thing I hate to see is a regulator pushed all the way over to F or S in order to make a Watch keep 'half decent' time. Making it tick with a new staff may be simple enough, making it tick and keep time may not.

Balance complete is the way to go.

I have not known a watchmaker not want to attempt to change a balance staff if it is broken. Perhaps its just that i deal with watchmakers that trained during the time these were made so know them inside out.

Ken,

If you decide you want to try the staff, I would be happy to send a couple out.

Just PM me with your address, it's up to you.
