Just wondering was the 7 AA movement made specifically for the Academy Award watch. Just wondering if that is what the AA stands for. A fair assumption surely? What is the oldest and latest 7AA anyone has had?
Gary,
My thoughts exactly !!!!!!!!
the earliest 7AA movement I have seen in a Watch is dated A9 and is in an 'ACADEMY AWARD' - all Four of the 'ACADEMY AWARD' Watches I own have the 7AA movement - all are known originals.
7AK - 7AA may be the distinction between 'EXCELLENCY's and 'ACADEMY AWARD' watches - some may argue but I believe all original 'ACADEMY AWARD' watches will have the 7AA movement.
Food for thought: the 21 Jewel 7AK was readily available for use in the 'ACADEMY AWARD' Watches at the time of production - why not use it?
I have come across quite a few excellency models that have 7AA in too though, a couple actually dialled excellency too but if bulova produced a huge amount of 7aa calibres, then the Academy stopped them using their name, they would have put them to use some other way wouldn't they. I have not seen any pre 1949 either.
