Corrigan

Submitted by vintagebulova.com on January 23, 2011 - 12:16pm

I recently came across a Corrigan and was looking at the way the bezel was attached to the case.  It seemed that this was engineered very badly and counting on the spring bars to hold it in place was wishfull thinking at best.  I came across some pictures of one with flexible lugs attached which look like they would hold the bezel on much more securely.  Is it possible that the Corrigan originally came with the flexible lugs and most were removed to fit a more conventional band?

The ones I've seen that haven't been sodered together have been held with a long bar... lugs at each end.

Oh an incidently they snap off very easily... (angry)  and I'm sure damned near impossible to find replacements for... unless... you have some Mike and by golly I need to buy one.

But yeah if you look at the original advertisements... they do have those attached links that I'm almost assured had been either broken or gotten rid of after band replacement was needed.

Jerin / Jay - the pins you're looking for are known to me as "Gucci" type. My watchmaker has always called them "Gucci". Here's the deal though.... Those pins were not used in the original Corrigans in fact they aren't shown in either the ad or the photos Jay posted, they're shown as part of the swivel bracket. I googled 'gucci watch pin' and came up with 20mm pretty quickly on Amazon but my Corrigan measures 18.5mm. Consider this though, look at the 20's Bulovas, they all have pierced lugs and the pins go all the way through, in fact the only way to remove many of them is from the outside. Now THOSE pins would go all the way through BOTH holes in the Corrigan lug and hold that precious little bridge on the lower case nicely. I've looked and still haven't found anyone who has a supply of the OLD STYLE pins ( and they really are different - the spring loaded part is three times longer!! ). OR you could do what I did (after I lost and found the that crystal bridge on my Corrigan) - glue it down - use the same glue you use on the crystal. (So Far - So Good)

I used some screw type pins on my Corrigan to hold the bezel in place.  Please don't take me to task for using silver.  That's what I had in stock and will probably switch to gold. And as this is a restoration in progress I know about the dial and hands.  That bezel is one fragile piece of metal.  Be very careful when working on or polishing.
