How to replace watch hands

Submitted by Gerard on October 19, 2011 - 1:46pm

Hello,

I want to replace the hr/min hands on my 1955 Ranger with a 10BT movement.

How do I measure or whatever I need to do to get the proper ones?

Thank you for helping me with my newbie questions.

measure from the outside of the track to the opposite side at the narrowest point on the Dial.

Also need to measure the inner diameter of the holes (or the width of the hour  post and the minute post) if fitting replacement hands from a jobber.

youve been given the right measurements by earlier posts, an old watchmaker(now decesed) showed me a trick you may or may not know for replacing hands. seems he had got a little shakely for tweezers and took about a two inch piece of tape, stuck it to the end of the hand than folded the tape over to create a handle. after appling the hand pull the tape sideways and youre thru. hope this helps.
