Saleman's Case?

Submitted by Kathy L. on September 20, 2019 - 12:23pm

Hi,  This is a case I picked up.  It is small around 8x6".  The insert looks like it was added after the fact and is a cut down ring holder I think.  I plan on getting a jewelry tray and cutting it down to fit and putting a few special watches in it.

What do you think it was used for?  Anyone seen one like this?  What era do you think?

My gut feeling is salesman sample case for womens small sized watches. I'm thinking it could date anywhere from the mid to late 30's to the late 50's based on the inside "Bulova Fifth Avenue". Very cool.

Fun to speculate stuff like this. I would say late fifties early sixties. Small as it is it could have had one watch on it. OR it could have held a sales collection (think of those sixties diamond watches). They would have had the bracelets cut off and just the watch and a inch or so of the bracelet attached.
