Bulova 1967 Ambassador

Model ID rating explained.
Manufacture Year:
1967
Movement Model:
12EBACD
Movement Jewels:
30
Case Serial No.:
509
Case shape:
Cushion
Gender:
Mens
Additional Information:

This M7 Ambassador has a 3-digit number [509] stamped inside the case back and a different, longer number (1-542325), stamped on the outside. This appears to be the case on all examples of this model. I have seen numbers such as 500 and 524 on the inside of other examples. Those other examples (so far as I could examine them via online photos) also had different numbers outside the case back.

I do not know the reference number of this or how it was described in catalogues of the time to differentiate it from other Ambassador 30j models.

Movement is 12EBACD, also marked  SX and D

Inside caseback is stamped CB within a tombstone-shaped cartouche. I do not know whether this indicates the case maker.

Bulova Ambassador.

Automatic.

30 Jewels.

with magnified date window.

case material appears to be stainless steel.

identified as 'waterproof' on back case.

'Bulova' on crown.

'SWISS' appears below the 6 o'clock position on the dial.

original band has been replaced.

I have not had the case off.

This was my father's watch, which he obtained either during his time serving in Vietnam (1967-1968) or sometime shortly afterward, although based upon other pictures and information I have seen, this watch appears to be from the 1970's.

Edit: talked to my mother about this - she doesn't remember much (anything) about it either, but did say this could have been her uncle's watch since my dad was known NOT to wear jewelery, so it doesn't make sense that he would have bought it himself or that my mother would have bought it as a gift or anything.  That also makes more sense since this watch has much more wear and scratches on it than I would think it would, considering how infreqently my dad would have worn it.

I have no other information about this watch.

However, I am curious if this is even a real Bulova watch, or if it is a fake.

There is no serial number or other date code marking that I can see anywhere on the outside back case.

Also curious is the dial - every picture I have seen of any Ambassador watch of this era, at the 12 o'clock position is the brand 'Bulova' and directly underneath 'Ambassador', and at the 6 o'clock position 'Automatic' and 'XX Jewels' (30 in this case).  However, this watch has 'Bulova' and '30 Jewels' at the 12 o'clock, and 'Ambassador' and 'Automatic' at the 6 o'clock.  The 'Bulova' is also done in raised lettering.

I believe this to be the Maxim.  The only ad we have coincides with the watch.

There's an addtional serial number stamped on the back of the case, which is pretty unusual for the year.  It shows:  221807, and you can see it looks like it was stamped after the fact?

It's pretty unusual anyway.

White gold case with etching down the bezel, gold numbers.

The advertisement is from a 1933 newspaper ad.

Record updated to new owner 2/17/2016

I purchased this watch from plainsman about a year ago. Following are his original comments:

Looked through all of our Ad's and the only thing I can find is the attached ad.  I believe this to be the Ambassador in a two-tone case.

Double date stamped, Shield with a Anchor hand stamp over the top.

This doesn't seem that it's the original bracelet but someone tracked down a pretty nice two tone replacement.
