Additional Information

This watched belonged to either my grandfather who passed in 1931 or my father who passed in 2002.  They both have the initials “C.L.E.” which are engraved on the back of the watch.  Grandfather was a farmer and a photographer’s assistant and my father was a carpenter, so neither would have worn the watch except for special occasions, which probably explains its condition.  I took it to a jewelry repair shop to remove the back and get these pictures.  It had been a drawer for decades but started to run after winding.  Any help you can give me about the year of manufacture would be appreciated.  I am giving it to my son on his wedding day next month.  The photographs are attached.

The information that I was extracted with the help of a jeweler’s loop at a jewelry store revealed the following:

Inside of the back of the watch:

BULOVA
10K ROLLED GOLD PLATE
NEW YORK

W965 (scratched in)
WR 1534 (scratched in)
W3394 (scratched in)
7012234 (stamped)

On the movement:

SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS                  ADJUSTED

Bulova Watch

17AE  There appears to be a “V” stamped just across the opening from the 17AE (circled on my photo)

NOTE

**I am very interested in what the experts/panel think. I narrowed the watch to the "his excellency" looking at pics under 1949 on this site, but none are as fancy as this watch. None have the 3 diamonds OR the fancy case design, including design on the lugs.

Additional Information

Hi all

I believe this is a 1949 Tuxedo

I bought this one back in December and have waited until I got it back from Jeff Shimp before I put it on to the db.  It required servicing and dial refinished. I think you will agree this now one fine example of this model.

the bezel and case are 10 k gold rolled plate, the case is marked Bulova A9 and has the serial number 2610807. the inside, Bulova Fifth Ave, New York.

The movement is marked A9 and is 17Jewelled 8AC.

the dial was refinised by International Dial.

Additional Information

This is a 14K solid white gold case, crystal fits flush to the case everywhere.  Not sure if crystal is plastic or glass, the watchmaker thinks maybe plastic.  The band is an aftermarket Spiedel vintage band with round ends - it has to go.  Dial looks original and is charcoal grey with a slightly different shade frame around the outer edge where the minute markers are painted.  Light spotting on dial.  White gold hour markers at 1,2,4,5,7,8,10 and 11.  Hands are all white gold.  White gold-color signed crown, I assume it's original.  Watch came from e-bay.  Movement not running due to broken hairspring, parts movement en-route to effect repair.

What model is it?  I know it's from the "His Excellency" line, but being a 1947 in solid gold, it should have a model name.  I'm thinking possibly a "Tuxedo" but missing the gold band (?)

Any help appreciated.

Additional Information

I would like to know the model and any other information possible. I believe from the serial number that I have the correct manufacture year. I cannot open the case. The case is stamped 14K GOLD Bulova. The band which had links removed so it would fit my grandfathers wrist as he aged is stampre Kreisler 14K USA and weighs .97 ounces. Thank you for any input.
