Oh my... I may have just cheated myself.

So I found this auction on IOffer.com

www.ioffer.com/i/191875960

I just paid $53 bucks shipped for an Accutron NIB... which uhmm looks to good to be true.  I didn't notice right away he's from CHINA!  Oh boy... I'm almost sure I just scammed myself.  I also notice... AFTER the fact that he has 2 more for sale... same pics.. same shape. Ohhhhhhhhh frick.

This smacks of thos NOS vintage Bulova's that are on ebay right now we were talking about a week or so ago... I think Paul was wanting us to chip in a buy one.  Oh well.. I guess we'll see if I even get anything.

BUT.... I used paypal.  Am I covered?

Plains I'm afraid your SCREWED! No where in his description does he "Claim" the watch to be a "True Bulova" , Paypal told me a year ago that they would only refund if the seller had "deliberately misled a buyer based on the written sellers description" Basically he's showing  "A Watch" displayed in a Bulova box and letting you "ASSUME" it's a true Bulova. Unfortunately we all know the definition Of "Assume"...

I dissagree, seller claims the item brand is Bulova, a trademarked brand, easy to prove if it is not..

Item specifics Condition: New Type: Dress Gender: Men's
Brand: Bulova Features: Water Resistant Description: SHIPPING TIME:
5-10 DAYS £¨to the world£© Payment: I accept
PAYPAL ,Bank transfer Western Union. Policy and Guarantee: If you
are not satisfied with my items or service, please contact me and I
will correct any mistake before you leave me negative feedback. My
goal is to please my customers and build good business relations.
So I want to earn your positive feedback and I will
reciprocate.

Pay pal will probably argue the point but if you are a little persistant I am confident they will stop the payment, especially if you stop your credit card payment to them...most cc do have fraudulent purchase protection, use it !!!!

Copy the sale, all of it that you can (save the web page(s) for offline use) so you can easily send to paypal and your card company.

I have to think paypal doesnt want fraud sales, it hurts their rep and bottom line.

Haha... well cheap lesson for my stupidness.  Though... it is titled Bulova Accutron in Original Box... I think that should cover me right there if it turns up that it's not one.

Paypal to the rescue?!  Haha...

Plains, I just went back and read this guys BIO and he's only been listed as a seller for 30 days. 4 total feedback including yours??? The first buyer he had bought a "Harley Davidson" watch which he promptly put up for sale on Ebay a few weeks ago. Sounds like a counterfit or knock off to me.

I was trying to see if there's a way to contact that dude from Texas who bought the Harley watch and ask him if he ever got it.

Unfortunately I didn't put his watch on my "Watch list" but I assume (now I'm doing it!!) he got it and discovered it was a knock-off .. I had come across it on a different search but I definitely remember he was based in Texas... Then again maybe he was buying and re-selling to make a profit, we all know there's a lot of that going on in Ebay lately. Question: Did this seller tack on any duty or import charges??

Oh I'm not hoping for the best... now my curiosity is piqued.  That's a hell of a lot of trouble to go though to knock off a $100 dollar item.  It's not like this is a Rolex we're talking here.  I'm sure it's all BS but hrmm...

Now I want to see what the quality of my new knockoff is!  Hehe...

I guess we all will know when you actually get in your hands and do a complete inspection?? If it's a fake or knock-off maybe Mike can stick something  "Real" in the case and make it look "real purty".

YEAAAA!!  I'll be everyones experiment!

If I actually get something and it's even remotely close... this is going to be a wake up call for us all.

Think about the implications of high quality fake 214's floating around Ebay....  a guy will never really be able to buy a super nice one again... unless all the fakes have the same serial number on them or something.

What sacrifice is ol' dumb@ss Plainsmen taking for the team!  For about the same cost as taking the wife and kids to the Gnomie and Juliet movie the other night with  Mr. Icee's, M&M's, and popcorn!  (sheesh has going to a movie become a rediculously expensive endeavor)

Knock offs from china are a huge business, they reverse engineer all kinds of stuff and reproduce it exactly like the original, sometimes with near the quality as well( but not usually lol) When the govt funds and rules the business, knock offs are a very good money maker over that way, Japan is huge on knockoff sales!!! Heck just look at their stealth aircraft, a virtual twin to ours as they recovered a crash and reverse engineered it !!! I looked at a few Rolex on there, side by side with what I believe are originals...without having them in hand, indistinguishable from each other, movement and all. Ive spent some time in Asia and believe me, they buy and sell a s**t ton of em !!!!

HA HA Plains, just buy a good flat screen and a good surround and it will pay for itself (if you rent movies at redbox) in about 5 family trips to the mall theater !!! And you get to keep it all !!!

I think maybe a general warning thread may be in order about IOFFER.. looks like its almost all fake stuff, might even be a complete China govt website set up and all, They have done it many times in the past.

Hey Timemachines.... when/if I get this thing i'll probably send it to you to confirm fakery... if we can even tell if it's ubergood.

Caveat emptor, especially if it involves China, and I am sure there are a bunch on the bay right now.

I never checked out ioffers, and don't think I will have to, you did it for me!

Look on the bright side, you can give it to a family member as a gift and look like a king doing it! ;)

Plains there is no way that watch could be faked, either in China or anywhere else. That is a PHOTOGRAPH of a genuine Accutron spaceview. I suspect you will either get nothing at all or something entirely different.

There is a saying. "If it looks to good to be true, it probably is".

PayPal will protect you I think, but not until it's either not delivered or significantly not as described.

I beg to differ on the 'no way it could be faked'...China reverse engineered a stealth fighter from the remains of one of ours that crashed...they can and do make fakes of everything that are near perfect....

Plains,

I took a look at your sellers 162 other watches, many of them are stock pictures, but some are photos, the thing I noticed is the all have different backgrounds, Copy/Paste? He does have a couple of old Bulova's, Hamiltons, Omega, & Longines/Wittnauer listed.

Pretty hard to counterfeit them... If you used paypal you should be covered for a SNAD or INR, a hassel, but worth it.

Keep us posted on how this turns out.
