Introduction is in order

First off, thank you for this site.  I t appears that there are many knowledgable folks here specific to Bulovas.  I have been lurking for a few weeks and am impressed with the knowledge base.  Personally, I am the grandson of an employee of Elgin National Watch company, and my grandfather passed on his skills with watches and tools to me before he passed.  For the last 40 years I have collected Elgin pocket watches and within the last year decided to explore wristwatches, specifically Bulovas due to their availability and company history.  My non-screen name is Tom and I live in the Columbus, Indiana area.

With that said, I have a question concerning a Bulova "23".  I have recently acquired a working "23" but need to locate a crown.  I think my supplier can provide the proper stem, but I do not have a catalog identifying the crown part number.   The movement is a 1957 10BPAC in a stainless case.  Any help would be appreciated.  I will post my collection of 10 Bulovas as soon as I can get around to uploading the files.

Welcome Tom!  I'm pretty sure one of our resident watchmakers will be able to help you out with your question.  el-oose or timemachines are pretty on the ball when it comes to correct parts and might even have an extra your looking for.

Enjoy!

Welcome aboard Tom !!! I will probably be in touch with you in the future, I have a few Elgins, especially if you happen to have some empty cases lol . You appear to be the closest to me, I live in Niles Mi, just over the border from Notre Dame / South Bend...

No problem, Shooter.  I have a few empty cases, mostly 18s silveroid and some 16s chrome.

Hi And Welcome,

Depending on the case, it could be a 323, 325 , 303 or a G711.  # 16 is the standard part # for all Bulova stems. Depending on the watch case it could be a single but there is a possibility that it could be a 2 piece split stem. (hence the missing crown perhaps).

Is the case a one piece or a screw off back?

The case is a screw off back S/N B862125.  The open end of the winding pinion is female, when I insert my bench key into the pinion it goes in about 5mm beyond the pillar plate.    Thanks.

Well I guess you could go either way, I have the one piece stem and the female but not the male of the 2 piece, and I have both the 303 and 325 crowns.

I tried a number 6 one piece stem from another movement and it fits perfect, so I have that nailed down.

The stem tube stands proud of the case 1/16" so whichever crown has a recess for the stem tube should be it.

I just acquired a 10bpad (I think it is called a DATE KING- but not sure) The movement is very clean. I need to locate a back for this watch. Could you help in the search? I would appreciate it! Thanks...Mike

Mike, you may be better served if you started an new post with this request.  I would suggest in either the General Information or Repair forum.  Can you post a picture of the watch?

Thank you for the welcomes, you are a very accommodating group!  Elgin translates pretty well to just about all movements except for Accutrons 8-).  I've got a few Bullys now, just have to pickup on the accent.  PM me for those "other" guys so we don't mess with the intent of this site.

Your learning fast!

Nice to have you aboard!

Bullys. Ham's, Elgin, Waltham, are all spoken on my end, Pockets are my main passion, but Bulova is wristwatch speak here. You may get some pocket PM's from me!
