ID this 1943 President or.... variant?

Submitted by plainsmen on March 7, 2011 - 12:45pm

Haven't seen one of these... iridescent numbers and hands...

Very much reminds me of the

Surgeon = Blackhawk,

Medical Officer = Regulator,

Senator = Blackout

so then....

President = ???

1943 rose/pink gold President case and dial, iridescent dial/hands, 21 Jewel, 7AP Movement

Has anyone at least came across one of these before?

Plains

My guess would be originally an exploding dial that somebody didn't like, so the dial was hand painted during refurb & hand change (maybe by a 4th Grader).

I don't believe it was a production watch IMO.

See what answers you get when you are desperate.

Good Luck

Wayne

Hrmmm... I don't know, it's dated to the EXACT time when those others were being produced as variants.  I think I may be on to something... though I'm sure I'll never prove it!  Haha...

Several points of observation to consider J.

The locator notch at the foot of the Dial is in place and the Dial has the curvature Characteristics of a 'PRES' Dial (Dial is desiged for the case it is in).

The 'aging' is even across the Dial, the Hands match in condition, and era, Hands are correct for the Year.

Numerals are outlined Black then filled with Luminous and  look original under magnification as does the back of the Dial.

Lume in the Hands matches the Lume in the numerals in all aspects, color, age etc.

1943 date stamp.

IMO You're onto something.

Line it up next to Your Blackout.

I'll put all three up next to each other in a bit... the wife just told me we're out of propane and I need to go snag some for steaks tonight!

Sweet!  It does look aweful familar and I have two of the other variants in my possession with the Blackout and the Blackhawk... it certainly does have that feel.

Jerin,

Someone wanted a lummie dial... So redial it in 1/5 (?) early 40s Pres dial options, and resell...

Best :-)  Scott

Well shut my mouth & the 4th grader that I thought refurbed your watch. Your gut feeling & persistance paid off. Congrats Plains!
