Automatic 1957: anything else you can tell me?

Submitted by Lance666 on March 15, 2011 - 9:26pm

Hello.

I bought this M7 model before I knew much of anything about Bulova. What can you tell me about it? Measurements: 30mm across excluding crown, 38mm lug to lug.

Oops. It seems there is some restriction on uploading images. Ah!!! Now I see. If I click "Okay" it is the same as "Cancel". To have success, I must click "Send it to server". Also, it seems it is not account-specific, so "Front.jpg" is a popular file name. I changed my file names to include my login and Bob's your unle. Just a note to help othgers who find the upload process a bit too "unique". Well, I uploaded two images, got the "Successfully" response for both, but only one appears. I'll see if I can add the second one.

Nice looking automatic Lance... the M on the back is 1960..... it's the L = 1950.

So you've actually got a 1967 watch here.    That has the almost exact same case asn an Accutron I think... nice simple timepiece.  Could keep you forever.

Goof of the day -- sure, I knew it was 1967, just a typo or senior moment, can't tell the difference anymore.

I wonder how this watch would have been listed or advertised by Bulova. Maybe "Self-winding, water-proof... whatever". It's the whatever that puzzels me. I notice some Sea King were marked "Water-proof" and others were marked "Water Resistant", some had the whale inscription, others did not, but I think this smaller size case would not be a Sea King.

I haven't opened it to note the movement / caliber because I don't have the proper tool. I will have it cleaned soon and then maybe get a bit more info. Can I assume a Bulova not marked "23 Jewels" or  "30 jewels" is 17 jewels by default?

It runs and keeps fairly good time (gains a minute in a week), but it stops in less than 48 hours if I'm not wearing it. Is that normal?

Not sure of the Date of this ad:

48 hrs is in line with the power reserve on the Watch.

The correct way to use an Auto by the way is to wind it manually 4-5 times when You first put the Watch on to 'prime' the mainspring, the auto wind then takes over while wearing.
