Information about this watch

Submitted by vincec44 on October 17, 2011 - 3:46pm

Curious as to any information related to this watch, such as date of manufacture, model name if any and approximate value.  I researched this until my eyes were about to give out and joined this site for help and to add any help I can, in my limited capacity.  What I found out as a means to date is to check the chart that has corresponding symbols and dates, and which symbols are located above the "B" in Bulova on the works.  Sadly, there is no symbol on my watch. The only watch I could find that had the correct configuration of the numerals on the face, (3, 6, and 12)  and the same or near same case configuration was the 1948 Brigadier, but that is listed as having a different mechanism and is 21 jewel, while mine is an 8ae movement and 17 jewel.  Anyway, any help gladly accepted and appreciated.  Thanks, Vince

Hi Vince,

Love to help but I don't see any pictures here. The best you could post of the watch, caseback and movement would really help us move forward. The date stamp would be on the movement  pre 1949-50.

Use microsoft picture manager to resize your photos for upload. Might help and if you need instructions, email me.

Sorry for the private message, my first day on this board and did not notice the reply button on the bottom of your message.  Anyway, thanks for the reply and I have added pictures again, hopefully they will show up but if not, they are available under new/updated watches, 1948-unknown.  Thanks, Vince

Have been seeing this case a lot lately, but not in our database. Can you tell us what it says on the case back and case back interior? Especially look for a 2 digit letter number combo on the back.

Shooter 144;  On the back outside it says 10k gold filled and under that Bulova and on the bottom of the back is the serial number 7223536.  I have looked high and low and can find no identifying mark as to year.  Inside the cover it says "Bulova , fifth ave, new york."  There are also two engravings inside the cover, but they are jewelers service dates.  Inspected the mechanism again and absolutely nothing like a symbol or year designation.  Wow.  Thanks for responding.  Vince

Looks like on the movement just above the 'B' in Bulova may be a mark, but I cant see it when I zoom. If you look here www.mybulova.com/bulova-date-codes you will see all of the known date codes, so you know what to look for. I would guess it should be a 47 or 48 stamp somewhere....sometimes they were stamped very lightly, a powerfull magnifying glass or as I like to use, the macro setting on a high megapixel camera  will help....a decent 5mp or better camera will take a pic that can be zoomed to see almost anything on these, especially if it has a macro setting. Some one here may be able to date somewhat by case s/n, tho those numbers tell little else except approx dates.

Nice looking, great condition watch !!!
