Pater or Patricia

Submitted by William Smith on December 8, 2011 - 1:33am

I was reading a thread from FifthAvenueRestoration on Pater vs Patricia...and I lost the thread.  I have a couple of these Pater or Patricia....or very similar. (Probably a dozen + of this type/vintage).  I had been calling them paperweights up till now, since there were soo many variations on case patterns in these early Bulova.
I'll try to correctly submit/list examples  of what I have w/ info the proper way.....soon....but in front of me now-on my desk- are five late 20's Bulova "paperweights".  All ticking...for what that's worth.  You mean they actually had individual names?  :)  I'm trying to decide what to do with them.  I guess I can hermetically seal 'em up again w/ desiccant and back into the safe deposit box...but why!

William,

I see a 'MADELINE', 'MISS AMERICA' and a 'MISS LIBERTY' amongst the papeweights but no 'PATERS' or 'PATRICIAS'

From what I can see the is no difference between the 'PATER' nor the 'PATRICIA' other than the date of production.

See Vintage ads 1924 - 1930.

Thanks FifthAvenue

Now I have an idea of what some of these pictured may be named!  The two Patties were not on my desk, so they were not in this picture.  This site is great....I attempt my due diligence ..and then can request help when I'm confused...which is often the case.

William,

As luck would have it this arrived today.

14K Gold Filled Case which is hinged yet the movement sits in the Caseback with no dust cover.

This is the 'PATER' in My opinion.

Compared to this hinged 14K Rolled Gold plate Case below in which the movement remains in the bezel protected by a dust cover. - The 'PATRICIA'

A quick identifying factor would be the differing engraving on the side of the 2 Cases - under closer scrutiny the bezel corners also have 2 different patterns.

Thanks

I'll get mine out and try to figure out what I actaully have.  These use to be almost unwanted, so easy to pick up here and there.  Not quite as easy now....but still out there.
Aloha
