In my watches I have a 1955 Ranger listed. The more I understand how things work here and with Bulova , should it be a unknown due to the fact the only proof I have for this watch being a Ranger is the Glass and plastic crystals.
I think that isn't allot of proof.
Gerard,
Thanks for asking that question. It shows that you care about what we're trying to accomplish here with the model ID and documentation process, and I, for one, really appreciate that.
The merits of basing an ID solely on crystal specs is a matter of considerable debate, and you will likely get a number of different opinions expressed here.
I believe that crystal specs alone, when officially documented through a Bulova crystal packet--like you have for the Ranger--or a crystal catalog, are sufficient for a tentative ID. Crystal verification is not sufficient, IMO, for confirmation of an ID.
I also feel very strongly that, when an ID is based solely on crystal specs, that fact should be well documented in the watch listing. I see that you do show the crystal packet in the discussion section of your listing, and that is great. I would advise also pointing out that fact in the upper description section of your listing, for those who tend not to read the entire discussion.
Again, thanks for raising this important question and showing a willingness to change your watch ID if necessary.
Lisa
Hi Gerard,
Lisa has really said it all in her response, crystal specs may work for a tentative but not confirmation as many crystals will fit other models. Hang in there, keep checking the ads and If you do find a match, post it in your watches pictures as confirmation. Pictures and ads tell it all, and the panel will respond accordingly
