Early President??

Submitted by TMeulenberg on May 9, 2012 - 6:03pm

Hi, I'm looking for any help I can get identifying this piece, it has the following markings:

R5 (or S) 9AT

9AT

MO8E (or C)1007

Inside the back cover are:  PAT Jan 11, 1927.... BULOVA, (in an arc shape), 14K gold filled,  NEW YORK (in an upper arc shape), and something that looks like it was scratched in,, possibly very small initials, maybe... or number, hard to read,... 85P??  And the following very clear numbers in an up arc shape:  9179767.

I am hoping I got biggger, better pictures...

Thanks so much!

We would need better pics of front, back, inside case back, and movement to get very far.  It's a workout, but worth it if you can ad them. Thanks

Inside of back cover reads:

PAT JAN 11, 1927

BULOVA ... in a downward arc

14K

Gold Filled

NEW YORK,.... in an upward arc

Below that, there appears to be something scratched into the back.. the best a can make out is,,, EFP or EFB.. and i's in handwritten cursive, looks like initials.

The following numbers also appear in an upward arc: 9179767

There is a bell shaped symbol on the works, looks to me like the 1929 mark???

The hand written is no doubt a watchmakers mark from being serviced.Any symbol on the movement? like a square or triangle etc...

Hi, thank you Jim,

Yes, upon further eye strain it is the 1929 shield marking.  Thanks for the initials info,

what exactly should I try to get closer up pic(s) of?

Under the home tab, there is an add a watch tab, use that format and add it as a unknown for now, you can always change it when a ID is agreed upon.

It is a much easier format to upload pictures to, and they will be larger.

movement case inside etc. look under the link at the top of the page where it says search. there is a pull down menu click on my Bulova watches type in 1929 in the year and 9 AT in the movement  hit search and scroll to the Garfield 1929 is this your watch?

I'm sorry that I am a complete novice.. a friend gave me a bag full of about 40 vintage items and said "keep what you like and throw the rest away", this is only the first item I'm trying to research!

Under the home tab at top there is a drop down that says add a watch. Try loading your information and pictures there as unknown for now
