Submitted by JeffH on November 24, 2010 - 12:24am

What is the Boac movement?  Have a black face L8 (1958?) 23 Jewel Self Winding Bulova watch.  Can anyone give me more information on it

10 is the movement size, the diameter. Part of the equasion is automatic with sweep center seconds, not sure of the O - day date?. Someone more knowledgeable will step in I'm sure

Here is the answer to your question, although the 'O' is a strange one.

Letter “C” means “center second hand”
Letter “A” means “automatic”
Letter “B” means “day and date display”
Letter “D” means “date only”

Have seen BPAC models noted....presidential?  But also, mine does not have day and date indicated by the B...but perhaps the BO means omitted?

is automatic, self winding....does not have day date.

Jeff, You are correct with the year, 1958. Your watch model name is a 'Bulova 23' for the database.

Hey Mark,

Since Jeff has posted pictures of the watch, 1958 Unknown, and I think it's a Sea King or Sea Clipper.

regards Shawn

No whale on the watch...seems most kings or clippers are 17 jewel?

I'm not very well versed with the Automatics but on that note I cannot comment. I could be dead wrong. actually,Now  I think  Mark is correct and I am mistaken. Sorry.

Shawn, there's a '61 Sea King just listed with documentation, no Whale visible on the dial but it is a 17J auto.
