Just arrived from ebay seller today - Looks like a Princine to me. Needs a very thorough clean of both case and movement. Seller says that it keeps good time although I haven't had time to test this.
I've seen a couple of very clean restoration jobs on here. Does anyone know what the dial finish is? Is it laquered silver plate? Will try the usual inert cleaners before resorting to something a little more aggressive if needed. Might also need to do something with the crystal - it's very scratched as you might expect. At first I thought it was glass, but it fell out while I was cleaning it and is definitely acrylic. I assume originals aren't easy to come by!!
Thanks for your thoughts
Stuart

These old Dials were manufactured from Silver.

The crystal opening in mm is 22.9 x 11.9 (narrowing to 6.8) - appears to match G-S T186 according to the 1930's GS catalogue on here. I had a look round a few UK suppliers and web sites last night and couldn't find anything. If anyone knows where I can get hold of one, then please let me know.
Thanks
Stuart
In reply to Dial should clean up nice by mybulova_admin
Thanks for the advice. I tried soap and water, also iso-propyl alcohol to no avail. Eventually I used a slightly dampened silver polishing cloth, and it has come up very nicely.
I will shortly have a crystal on the way thanks to member DarHin, and I may also consider re-bluing the hands, but I think I need to find some scrap hands to try this out on first.
Then there's the movement...
Once it's all done I will upload some more pictures.
