Watch Description

1929 Garfield 9AT 17j, bezel engraving pattern is diamonds with two balls between each diamond located on the two vertical strips of yellow gold RGP.  The top & bottom bezel incorporate a Rocky Road design. It needs a glass crystal and a blue steel second hand. Bezel cleaned up very nicely, looks good with that brown mung removed. This is the first Garfield that I have seen other than the ad. And a first for the site.

Nice find.

Would like to see more pics of the actual Watch rather than the ad.

Good one Wayne,

You have a lot to work with on a restoration here...It looks like Bulova changed the dial and hands much like they did on the Sky King's...applied numbers and different hands, and they sure enlarged the sub-seconds on this one!

Is the case hinged??

The case is not hinged. Bulova disigners just couldn't make watches to meet the advertising standards! Do you doubt the watch or the ads Ticker? The bezel came up like new. New glass & i'll run out & get some professional pictures taken, or I clean out my storage closet & find my camera, whichever comes first. LOL

I don't doubt either Wayne,

My thought is along the same line of the Sky King discussion, Bulova updated or refreshed the look of the Garfield (different dial & hands) and never bothered to update the ad.

I would vote this 3 stars.

"The case is not hinged"

Wayne,

Broken hinge? From the photogragh the Case looks hinged, or like it should be.

Good eye!

It looks like this baby had a hingerectomy. Needs a bit manual manipulation to get the case closed firmly.

Follow the springbar out on that end admin and the lug hole is visible (barely). The hole highlighted with the arrow is below and inboard from the springbar mounting point.
