Watch Description

Hello,  i recently acquired (what I hope to be) my great grandmothers watch.  the numbers are very hard for me to see,  I did my best deciphering them.  it is keeping time and I do see the lil date symbol 30's or 40's.... It's visable  in one of the pictures .  I don't know any history on it.... Any info is greatly appreciated.

Hi Kristi, your watch is the "Miss America". This model was introduced in 1930 and very successful. It was also available with blue stones.  Many new generations of the Miss America were to follow until the 60's. Congratulations with this beautiful watch.

Is it best to keep it as is ?

id like to wear it on special occassions

and would love to keep handing it down.

Hello Kristi, welcome to myBulova. I'm a big fan of heirloom watches, I think they're just wonderful. Congratulations on having this lovely keepsake from your Great Grandmother. While the bracelet currently on the watch is not original it matches nicely. It is possible to find an original filigree bracelet but they are difficult to find in serviceable condition. The only recommendation I have for you is to have the watch professionally serviced if you're going to use it, even if you only wear it occasionally. It's made it through 85 years, I'd like you to help it along the next 85 by having it maintained properly. Even if it runs now, it still needs servicing.

Here's a 1930 advert showing your watch:
