Watch Description

This watch belonged to my great grandfather Ali C. (Charles?) Joseph. I believe that it might have been given to him when he retired, though I am not sure. Based on the research I’ve done it appears the be a 1931 Bulova Kirkwood (based on the other watches  I’ve seen on this site).   As you can see, t looks pretty rough, and had an “accordian” style band from Japan (so definitely not original). I would like to wear it occasionally for special occasions and the like. Although it works I think I need to get it serviced as it sometimes stops at random, and I’m sure it hasn’t been cleaned or lubed in decades.

Family heirloom watches are the best, congrats on having it. Looks like a good ad match to me.

KIrkwood advertised with a 15 jewelled movement, this one has a 17 jewelled movement.

Could just be a replacement, but I think the case style was only ever released as a Kirkwood.

Anyone else think of another 17J version?

I know of a couple others on this site that are also 17 jewels. Here’s a link to one that is almost identical to mine. The only difference I can see is the little dial for the seconds has a slightly different design. That and of course theirs is in better shape than mine :)

Oh, to have my great grandfather's watch! You are most fortunate. I'm going to vote to ID it as....

1931 Bulova Kirkwood (noting a possible movement swap, which to me is incidental)

What a wonderful heirloom of your great grandfather's watch.  Yes I would get it serviced and enjoy wearing it.
