Another eBay pickup, unfortunately not working. Interestingly there are two date code marks, the arrow and the triangle. What are the reasons for that? Given the serial number I'm going with the arrow and 1937. The case is clearly a Lone Eagle. The indices on the subdial are a bit of a mystery. I don't see non-numbers in '36 or '38 and we don't have '37 adverts with a Lone Eagle. Adverts show a ladder band, obviously mine isn't correct but I think it looks ok. So, 1937 Lone Eagle?
All points lead to it being a Bulova Lone Eagle and a great one at that. We actually don't see too many of this verison so congratulations on having such a fine example.
The only variation I can see is the sub-dail (at the 6 o'clock position), the the dashes instead of numbers, but I believe that the 1937 version did in fact have this as that style was becoming more widely used (think Amerrican Clipper et al).
The movement probably started out for a 1935 version but finally assembled and sold in a 1937 configuration.
Great watch!
1937 Bulova Lone Eagle
And here is confirmation of the non-engraved dash dial variant posted by Lisa a few years back.
1937 Lone Eagle.
The dial may be refurbished, it is one of the aspects that some refinishing companies have issues with, or cannot do. I have specifically asked for them to be done in the past by International, with good results. This is the last year for this type of dial, as the model progresses, it stops being fully rectangular and lacks the sub dial numerals.
