Hello samurai, welcome to myBulova. As you know, the crescent moon can be 1928 or 1938. Based on the case style we would go the the latter date. We also use the case serial number  to date watch cases when the watch is between 1925 and about 1949, in 1947-48, Bulova started date coding cases as well as movements. For this period, 1925-1948 on most watches (there are always exceptions) we assume the first number of the case serial to be the year of manufacture, in this example, 1938.

We call our affliction 'Bulovitis'. The disease is quite contagious and cannot be cured. Good luck with your collection. Glad to have you aboard.

Agree with Banker
