to the yellow color of the advert I would not bet, the same yellow are its edges advert and the color of gold is not mentioned here

Agreed, I considered that as well, but now having 2 watches in database (one yellow and one rose) It's a tough call.

Do we call subject watch an "R" tentative based on shape/ jewel count / face pending ad confirmation in  the future, or call it "no variant" based solely on color; which currently can't be verified and attributed to a variant letter by an ad call-out?

I suppose it's possible that the "R" variant is rose gold and the yellow is something else, depending on which color was the bigger seller.

How can you tell if the band is original?  I;m guessing this one is, as I remember always seeing it ,as is, on my grnadmother's wrist.  would that help in IDing the variant?

If you would like to drop a photo in the comments that includes the band it may help if another ad comes up with it.  Bands are often changed so there are a couple ways we can tell if they are the original.  A.  If it matches an ad.  B.  If it is NOS (new old stock) and still has a tag attached.  C.  First hand knowledge from the original owner that it was never changed.

It seems like sometimes Bulova changed the variant based on the band and sometimes they did not.

There really isn't a way to know without a doubt that the bracelet is original. While the advert shows it with a different style it certainly could have been added when the watch was purchased new. My guess is that it's from the period.
