Watch Description

Hi All, I inherited this watch from my cousin when he passed in 2021. He had four vintage watches and this is the only one that was complete so I have kept -- for now. It's been sitting in a drawer and finally decided to do my best to find out more about it. To start all I knew was it is a vintage Bulova that he used to wear years ago. Visiting multiple sites (including mybulova) I have deduced it is likely a 1943 Officer. Not even sure of the case color as it seems to have a great deal of patina, but think maybe yellow given the color of the face hand, etc. That said, I know little more about it and would love to learn more. Also, I am pretty certain it is not in working condition though the movement seemed quite clean after I finally got it open -- which was not easy! Thanks, Robert

Agree with it being a 1943 Bulova Officer (and not a 1942 as some have noted) given the readily apparent "X" date code on the movement.

In Canada it would have been called the "Ranger" and cost you $3.75 more.

The patina on the case comes from the silver base metal under the rolled gold plating. Silver developes a blackish tarnish and bleeds through to the surface of the gold plating. It's easy to clean off with something like Tarn-X. Just make sure you rinse all the Tarn-X off after cleaning.

Looks like a good match to the Officer unless you know that your cousin bought it in Canada then I would change it to Ranger.  I will go with the case date.
