Watch Description

I am sorry I don't have more information.  This was my father's watch, and my wife now wears it to remember him.  It is currently not working, and we need to explore either having it fixed or replacing it.  I thought the first step is to identify the watch in more detail.  I appreciate any information you can provide.  I put down the date of 1946, but I am just guessing. Thank you.

This looks to be a very fine heirloom watch that you have. You are correct to id the year to 1946 (based on the 1st digit '6' in the case serial number). If you are able to determine that the original movement is dated to 1947, then the id of this watch may change. In 1946 this watch was the model called 'Statesman', but in the following years beginning in 1947 it became the His Excellency. There is a similar watch in the database here. Your watch will likely have a 21 jewel manual-wind movement, and the white gold and charcoal color dial is a great combination. Originally it may have had a white gold link bracelet. There is also a similar looking model called the Director, but that model had straighter lugs, where your watch lugs have a slight outside curve.

Hello bpfeifer, welcome to myBulova. I'm a big fan of heirloom watches, you're most fortunate to have this keepsake from your father. I agree that your watch is Statesman model based on it being 1946. I'll send you some information on repair. thanks for sharing it.

Statesmen.  I really like the white gold/grey combination on this model.

It's good to be able give this a name, due to the year of manufacture. After 1946 it became part of the over-all 'Excellency Group' of watches, with this one in particular becoming the 'His Excel;;ency "DD" I believe.

But this one is all '1946 Bulova Statesman' as seen here.

I sincerely hope you can get the watch working again to wear in honour of your father.
