This appears to be a 1949 Sponsor.  It has a 10BH movement with a 48 date code and a stainless case back with a 49 date code.  The case is 10 yellow rolled gold plate.  This is a surprisingly large watch with cool lugs.   The last service date on the inside was 1959 so it was really sticky.   Keeping good time now.

I verified that the caseback date code is 49 so shouldn't this be a 1949 with 1948 movement? I'm not quite sure what year.

Yes, thanks for confirming. If the case is dated 1949, that is the watch date.
