Watch Description

hello i finished this watch a couple days ago..i cleaned serviced the movement..polished and buffed the case..broke a staff..replaced the balance complete..the watch is running and keeping great time...off about a minute a day,i didn't see anything more than that...we talked about this watch but i don't think a name was ever decided upon...the movement is an A9 17 8ae which matches the case....went i bought the watch the dial looked like it was in better condition, but the seller 'forgot" to mention how bad it was..i still would have bought the watch anyway...the watch came from england thats about all i know about the history, case gold filled stainless back...if anyone has a better dial for this watch i would be interested in buying one..when i got the watch it didn't have a stem also i changed the mainspring...

Which is it 1945 or 1949?

If its both then we are best to ID this from the case and not the movement.

sorry about that, i since i didn't know the year but i guess the movement tell you and the case..i put the first year that this style case *(with/without engraving) first appeared ...and that was 45...but yess the case and the movement have the 49 year code on both..like i said i broke the first staff on this watch and i didn't want to risk ttaking out the movement again rite now for a picture(i know but i am being too careful) but the movement does say A9..which i notice because it is rare that i had a case and movement match...

OK thanks 1949 it is.

Case has the distinct shape of the Douglas but with engraving. There are a number of model variants of the Douglas so maybe this is another. It's a starting point at least.

Similar to Douglas.  Case dimensions would help.  Douglas gold filled / gold backs.  Subject is SS?

1949 ad Names this Case with a 21 Jewel Movement the 'AMBASSADOR' (minus the Bezel engraving)

right but this is a 17j, so it wouldn't be an ambassador...i agree that it is sometype of douglas variant....like said the the movement is a9 and the case is an a9 so they match..A9 is the code for 1949 so maybe we are just missing  an ad with a 17j douglas in this case with or without the engraving...

I believe that this model is the Aeronaut.. There are a couple of others in the data base.

Come on guys.  Plainsman posted an advert showing this case as an Aeronaut.  Apparently only out in 1949 as that is the only date for this model I have seen yet.
