Additional Information

I just acquired this item and I'm submiting it for the database.  I believe it to be 1950  Academy Award "W".  Besides the above information, the case back is labeled "LO"  and the movement is labeled "49",   The Kriesler band appears to be accurate, from other photos and ads.  Included with the watch was the AA display case shown in the photo.

Well done Rich, very nice set. The Kriesler Bamboo band is correct, the display case completes the package.

Thanks folks.  I'm new to this site (and collecting, in general).  Can someone explain the rating system?  I clicked the link, but didn't see anything on the checkmarks or "x/xx votes".

Also, can anyone explain why there are so many AA variants?   To me, this seems like if Ford took a handful partially related cars in the same model year and called them all "Mustang".  They'd be competing with themselves.  I don't get it.    If this would be better answered as a forum topic, let me know.

Easy answer to the second question first, They did because they could. I imagine, speculation only, that they felt they could achieve better market saturation by offering lots and lots of variety. It seems to have worked!

The rating system we use gives each panel member, right now there are seven or eight of us, three choices relative to the ID when it's assigned, Agree (3 checks),  Tentative, not quite sure (2 checks) and Disagree (1 check). Generally if we have a couple ones, we'll discuss the watch a little more to see if we can arrive at consensus.

Thanks for the info Geoff.  I'll be bringing one onboard soon that may stimuate some discussion.
