Will I agree with you, they are similar, if not identical. Our tip but I always try to support in some advert and in 1951 I found only Brigadier. Douglas, I found in 1949 here http://www.mybulova.com/sites/default/files/vintage_ads/bulova-ad-1949-12.jpg, with black numerals.

12 yearsThis ad from 1948 is for the Brigadier. We also have several ads in the part 1940-49 ads from 1949 for the Brigadier. Any ads for the Douglas from 1948-on will be old stock ads selling older models, as the Brigadier ads for the new name from 1948-on are new stock.
To summarize, pre-48 = Douglas, post 47 = Brigadier or Ambassador, depending on the bracelet as shown in the second 1949 ad.
