Watch Description

Bulova 23 "E" by the looks of it and an early one. L4 marked movement and case back. I believe 1954 was the roll out year of the Bulova 23 Model. Band is a late 1960's replacement until I can find a more "ad correct" one. Not bad physical condition, but runs fast.

Running fast can be caused by a lot of factors, not the least being magnetisation.

Bulova 23 'E'.

Agree with Bulova 23 'E'. I've noticed that some of these first year 23s were chrome plated before being made SS; is this one chrome, Stainless, or gold?

Excellent observation Ken. Back is marked "Stainless Steel Back" and no other mention of composition (no plating reference). I just revisited it and I'm not quite sure. Under magnification, it has seams on the bottom edges of the lugs, like a RGP case but is unmarked. I always assumed it was a stainless case, but it would appear  that it might be rolled chrome over base metal? One would think if the plating was white gold, it would be called out on the back.

Looks like a 23 "E" to me.

(PS - I think all chrome is plated)
