Watch Description

Bulova 1955 10k Rolled Gold 17 Jewels

I just about forgot about this Bulova watch, which I picked up in an estate sale about a year ago.  After winding it up, it stops after awhile which makes me sad.  Perhaps there is someone here that could recommend having it looked at. After popping off the cover it is rather dirty inside and I expect the previous owner wore it a long time.  Likely a low end watch but I like its simplicity and classic looks.

Perhaps a President?  So I guess around a $600 dollar watch in todays money.  I guess I should see about having it serviced... would love to have some trusted recommendations.

With the movement out, I can see "Swiss" under the 6 O'Clock position.  You can kind of see it in my photo.

Looks like a President to me.

Haven't found an ad or match yet, but it sure does look like it should be a member of the President line. Still looking.

Thanks Nettstuf-4-u!  I like a mystery for sure but I'd be bummed if it ends up being a "Unknown"!

Still running after I put the watch back together, though losing time - about 50 seconds at least in the last 4 hours.  It looks better in person than the photo IMO.

I was using Vintage Bulova Watch Search and I am not finding any Round 17 Jewel Presidents before 1956.  From 1956 onwards there are lots in the search results, so perhaps not a President (or just the 1st 1955 someone has posted about)?

I opened up the watch again and took some more photos of the movement and inside the case using a old machinist loop that used to be my grandfathers.  The movement is L5 and then there is BXW stamped too, what is the BXW about?

While it is hard to see, it is Fifth Avenue New York in the middle of the inside case.  Then there is a old engraving that I swear looks like a square root math number.  There is another one under it but I can't make it out, even with my loop glass.

I figured out the BXW: Swiss import code for Bulova (or something like that) where other watch manufacturers have their own codes.  Then along those lines I found that unadjusted was to get lower import tariffs, not that the watch was sold "unadjusted".

Would the crown be a Bulova/original?  It doesn't have a "B" on it (my daughter's has a "B").  In my mind it is close to the Presidents I see and it seems like a lot of those crowns (without a "B").  Some are flat too that I have seen.
