Watch Description

My name is Candice Nash. I have recently acquired my grandmother's Bulova watch. I have no idea how old it is or what model it is. I would like to take it to a dealer that can repair Bulova watches, so I can have it cleaned and working again. All I can see in the TINY writing at the bottom is SWISS and the numbers 674, and the last number seems to be covered with dirt so I can't see it. The back says 14kt with two symbols on either side that look like a curly capital J. There are a total of 26 diamonds; 20 on the surround and 3 at the top and 3 at the bottom. Can you help me identify this particular model? I am going to keep it and try to get it cleaned up and the band fixed. Also, would you have any idea on the worth without taking it to a dealer? Thank you in advance for your time and help. Have a great day!

Hi Candice,

Welcome to  MB. Nice watch you have there. My 1st guess on a date would be 1960's or early 70's based on the style of the dial shape, hour markers and hands.

The date code will be on the movement and that is crucial to finding an ID for this beauty. Be wary of jewellers as most don't have a watchmaker on staff.

Beautiful watch! With my usual caution to not run the watch without a proper full service to the movt by a qualified watchmaker:

A gemologist will be able to assess the diamonds, and the case, being gold, will be whatever current market value is for gold. These two things will determine the value, and whether or not it is a running watch will add a bit of incentive for a collector. Not all jewellers are gemologists.

Possible, there were variants available for this model.

Thank you very much! I plan to take it to a local jeweler first, although I feel like I will have better luck in Memphis. I am afraid to open it, seeing that I don't know anything about them. The band is in need of repair, but I may end up buying a similar vintage band. I will repost when I get back from the jeweler. Thank you again. Great website!
