Watch Description

This belonged to my mother-in-law.  It was inside a long rectangular white Bulova box with gold writing.  On the inside lid it says Diamond Romance by Bulova.  23 Jewels 14 Karat Gold.  A note in the box said she received it as a gift on March 31, 1962.

It has a stretch band, and each link has some writing on it, but it is so small that even with magnifiers I cannot make out what it says.  The watch shape is oval with 3 leaves on each end of the bezel.  Each leaf contains a tiny diamond (6 total.)  On the face of the watch it says Bulova and the number 23.  On the winder is the letter B.  It keeps time. The watch is silver in color, so my guess is that it is white gold?

On the back of the case is the number 545485 and 14K Bulova.  It is also engraved with the following: Thanks Millie Bob & De.

I cannot get the back case off.  I will have to take it to a jewler because I do not want to take a chance of damaging it. I have searched the web and only seen one that looks the same.  It was on worthpoint.  The site did not give any details about the watch except to show a picture of it.

Hi Kathy, you were very helpful to me some months ago in helping me identify my watch.  I have since taken it to a jewelers to have them open the back.  The only number or symobl they saw was M6.  Could you tell me what this means?  I am having a difficult time figuring out how to do things on this website.  I have tried to figure out how to edit my watch, but have been unable to do so.  I notice that this watch is a 1966.  I'm puzzled as to why my mother in law noted that she received it in 1962.  Am I missing something?  Thank you for your time.  I appreciate it.

Hi Cece, once your watch record is created, only one of the administrators can edit it. M6 is the date code to 1966 which is probably why your watch was updated to 1966. Since you have provenance that your watch was gifted in 1962 it's probably appropriate for it to dated that year. We can only assume that at some point, the movement was replaced with a slightly newer model. Thanks for your patience.

Hi Cece,  I think I would have to agree with Geoff.  Your MIL must have received it in 62 and at some point had it repaired by a jeweler that replaced the movement (best guess anyway).  Everything looks correct so it really doesn't take away anything from the watch imo.  Kathy

Hi Kathy,  I spoke to my husband, and he thinks his mother was wrong with the date.  I am going to assume it is a 1966.  Was this number the  movement serial #?  If not, what am I looking for and where would I find this?

Hi Cece,  Bulova stopped putting serial #s on the movements by this time.  The M6 is what you were looking for to date the watch.  I will let the admins know you think it is a 1966 watch.

Hello ceceshain and welcome to myBulova!  What a lovely heirloom for your family and it is a beautiful watch indeed.

Your watch is a Diamond Romance "A".  The box made it easy for me to find a match.  This ad is from June 19, 1966, The Decatur Hearald.

Thank you Kathy!  Wow, what a quick response.  I really appreciate that.  Thanks for sending the picture.  I am guessing that my mother-in-law must have changed the watch band.  I suspected this because where the current band is attatched is different on the two sides.  I don't suppose there is a way to go back to my original posting and add this new information, is there?  Thanks again, Cece
