Watch Description

1969 Bulova Oceanographer 'F'

Case is a one piece all stainless steel, dated M9, case #2891 from W Germany; uses a split-stem and is top loading (crystal must be removed); signed crown is partially hidden; white dial with calendar window; movement is a manual winding Swiss-made 11BLCD; band came on the watch and is not a match to the ads, so likely not original, but is a Bulova band.

Ad collage from 1969/1970, with a snipet from an Oceanographer case info sheet.

Another beauty Ken with good ad documentation. Not much question -

1969 Oceanographer 'F', and I like this band better than the one in the ad.

Thanks everyone! I like the band style too, but it is not hairy arm friendly...ouch!

Hello, I recently obtained one of these . I’m guessing it’s a front loader? Is there a trick to getting it open or just remove the crystal and crown ? Thanks

Congrats on the acquisition.

You are correct, this is a top loader. Split stem, so separate out the crown/stem and take off the crystal. This crystal, if I recall, needs a crystal puller to remove.

I’ll play around with it tonight, I have the crystal puller. Thanks for the information.

Update:

It looks like in 1969, this could be the 'F' variant, but as we get to 1971 the 'S' variant replaces.

I don't find both the F and S in the same linebooks. In 1973 the band on subject watch looks to be a match.

I wonder if this band option was available in '69. Were there other options related to the -#W suffix.
