This is a 1972 Advert for the AP Royal Oak. Note the main difference is the shape of the screws on the bezel.

Maybe the shape of the screws was enough differentiation for Bulova to claim it is not a copy of the Royal Oak.

I have no idea how you would turn those screws on the AP. Were they there for affect only?

I haven't worked on one myself, but my understanding is that they act as tiny carriage bolts, you unscrew the nuts from the other side. If I can find any examples of this, I'll post them.
