late 30's, early 1940's 'PHYSICIAN'like. I own one with a 7AC (center seconds)
I'd guess 7AP or similar movement ? non Bulova Crown.
No shots of the movement or inner back were given, interestingly the caseback doesn't quite fit (?)
... or is that the ledge around the bezel perimeter?

Greg, very similar but in Stainless.
Estimated early 1940's, could be late 40's - Swiss 7 AC with an Asterisk and a Square, go figure.
'CONQUEROR' and one othe model, 'CONRAD' (?) use the same glass (same bezel) and most likely have the Gold back (?)...a guess, but an educated one.

I'd bet some watchmaker got very creative with flipping the movement 180 degrees and having a custom dial made. This would not be unusal for the time but lets face what we know , we all have never seen anything like this and ads would show Bulova has never put the sub sec dial at the 12:00 position. I'll say Frankenbully, but a very fine one IMO. I think who ever did this was a master craftsman and they did a very good job building a custom job for a wealthy client. Personally, I like it for it's very unique style and design but I doubt we'll ever ID it.

from what I understand these type movements (inverted sub seconds) were mounted to gunners' Cameras during WWII to record the time of hits, I've also seen them called bomb timers, neither with applied Gilt numerals.
eg below is a Hammy, pardon the language.
not a very good example as it's not inverted, but You get the idea...
I'd say the subject Watch is a gun cam / timer movement in a Civilian Case. The Dial is a redial easily done by flipping a 'standard' Dial and applying the numerals and sig upside down - printed sub seconds chapter looks like an 'ORD DEPT' or 'WATERTITE' / 'AIR WARDEN' etc. Hour and Minute Hands are Gilt, Seconds Hand is Black which is something not seen on a production piece.
Nicely done, and as Jeff mentions it would be nice to see what's inside.
Watch is back up!
Wow... never seen a movement cover like that on a Bulova before... Looks legit boys. The back cover has the Bulova and bell symbol for a mid-1930's case.
13AP, 17 Jewels
I won't put the auction up but that's.... unusual. You can find it.
Same movement from my mid-30's Jump Hour. My opinion... prototype... or very very select uber small run.
I'm pretty excited to see how this ends!
This ones gonna go large. After seeing the new pics and the movement I'd say it's legit. I've never seen one of these movement models but it is shown in Cooksey's as an early autowind, 1930, and named "Champ" also could be signed "Astor" on the dial.
Mystery no more folks.

Can anyone read the Patent number of the movement. Ite either a proto-type or a military timer as Firth pointed out.
May the Patent number may help itendify its intended purpose, if not that of a wrist watch.
I do hope that someone here wins the watch, as I'd love to see it added and become a much discussed item as we work out what it is exactly.
Good luck!

What we have here ladies and gents is an active discussion about a current EBay auction with the participation of the seller. The perfect storm for a redonkulos bidding feeding frenzy.

Jay,
It didn't start out like that, the auction had ended and that's when the thread was started. Obviously the seller's deal fell through and it was relisted a few days later. As for a bidding frenzy, you bet. The watch is quite rare and if you check out Cooksey's valuation will see just this watch may fetch at auction.

Hold your horses please dear Bulova collectors, there are still honest people in this world. There is no deal that fell through. We simply pulled the watch out of auction because we realized a mistake was made describing it as a mechanical Ladies's watch and I posted the Pat# info here here so you guys have access to more data, not to benefit from your research. Do you see anything mentioned in my description that this watch is featured @ Mybulova?

I agree 157%. This thread should have gone bye bye as soon as the auction went live again.
Jay
Admin, I would agree with Jay and Mark but only to a point. Is it possible to delete only portions of the thread that relate to the live listing? It would be a shame to lose the whole discussion, the pics, etc., given that an ID has been found and a new model has been added to the database.
